About me
I always loved going through my mother's jewelry box as a child, and in my teenage years I used to search the thrift stores of my hometown, Peoria, IL, for vintage costume jewelry to take apart and redesign. It wasn't until I moved to St. Louis that I learned to make jewelry, where my boss at my first restaurant job taught me Native American style peyote stitch. I went to Oregon at 21 and spent 10 years waiting tables and exploring different art forms, including beadwork, painting, crochet, embroidery, and music. I returned back east in 1999, and found a new home in the mountains of Western North Carolina, where I live today. I received an A.D. in jewelry making from the renowned craft program at Haywood Community College in 2002. Encouraged by positive reactions to my jewelry in local markets, I hope to turn the tables, so to speak, and make a career of jewelry and a part-time hobby of restaurant work.
